I was admiring many historical Valentine card designs, many were pretty pale lacey designs and others were surprisingly bold and colourful. I have tried to keep it romantic, retaining some floral elements and then add a spark of love and passion.

Happy New Year!
After a long lovely Christmas holiday being back at work was a bit of a shock to the system. What inspiration will kick start the new year? Pantone's vibrant colour of the year for 2012, Tangerine Tango, seemed a good place to start - even its name puts a smile on my face.

They were obsessed with animals and surrealism, but they also wanted it colourful and upbeat. However animals in surreal situations, with human-like attributes can quickly descend into the macabre.

One illustrator, Malika Favre, stood out as being able to achieve their vision; by 'visually translating their collective subconscious' - sexy, edgy and quirky.
We recently visited the fantastic Gerhard Richter exhibition at Tate Modern This month's wallpaper is clearly inspired by Richter. The image was created entirely in Photoshop using a photograph I took of some peeling paint on a pillar in Ipswich. I did not want it to be a Richter copy, but I did want to capture his skill at layering and blurring digitally. It is testament to his skill as a painter that this was actually very difficult to do. I am pleased with the results of this homage to a great artist. I hope you enjoy it and if you have the opportunity to go to the exhibition you won't be disappointed.

However they will be performing without Peter Hook.

These gigs will be in Brussels, at the Ancienne Belgique, on the 17th of October and in Paris, at Le Bataclan on the 18th of October. They are benefit shows in aid of the renowned artist and film producer Michael Shamberg. He produced several of New Order's music videos, including the Brit Award winning True Faith, Touched By The Hand Of God and Regret. Shamberg has been struggling with a debilitating illness since 2005.

The Gig posters and logo have been designed by Howard Wakefield. The design is intended to capture NewOrder without being archival, he wanted to convey a new NewOrder for these gigs. By using the font Meta, which has been described as a complete antithesis of Helvetica, it signals a NewOrder that is looking forward.

"I have been fortunate enough to design (with Peter Saville) New Order sleeves for 20 of those years and this was a real honour. But one image to illustrate 30 years of 'New Order'? When I think about imagery and New Order, I instantly think of all the sleeves; Joy Division and New Order sleeves are often referred to as being iconic designs, but rather than showing a montage of them, which have been much seen, admired and recognised, I wondered how recognisable are they?

I was curious to find out, if I reduced them in some way, could they still be recognisable.

I tried blurring and distorting them, but they rapidly became something else, however by simplifying them to their basic colour elements, they appeared to remain true to their iconic designs.

I found I could reduce them a great deal - so far in fact to just 9 simple squares - and ironically, this reducing reminded me of today's requirement to design a sleeve that can work as a tiny 'thumbnail' to be used on iTunes rather than the expanse we once enjoyed with a 12 inch record sleeve.

As a set, I am delighted to still 'see' all the sleeves. It is great fun flicking from the squares to the photographic versions. And my favourite? The last one - there is something poetic about reducing 'Sirens' to become almost… 'lost'."

Due to popular demand, Studio Parris Wakefield, New Order and Clash Magazine have created an online store featuring the image as a print, t-shirt, iPad/iphone case and Keds shoes.
